Kowhai Room

The Kowhai room was opened up in August 2009, initially providing care and education for up to 12 under 2 year old children.

Currently we have 5 permanent teachers, and run as a mixed age unit. This means that the children can stay in the room, as they continue their learning journey with us, regardless of their date of birth.

Consistent relationships between young children and their peers, and their teachers are built upon over an extended period of time; this provides them with the best foundations for successful learning in a centre environment.

The Kowhai room inside and outside environment has been designed by us, the teachers, as we follow the cues of the children as they go through their daily activities. Everything has its place and is placed for a reason.

Children have the freedom of choice they can follow their own bodily cues and learn to self regulate as we restrict time constrains to an absolute minimum.

The combination of our nurturing homely environment with its calm, yet stimulating learning centres offers children the inspiration and encouragement which is required for the best possible outcomes.

Each teacher brings her own wealth of knowledge and experience from different backgrounds and cultures; together we are able to satisfy and extend the children's curiosity and desire to find out about the world and how it works.
